Le Tap Room Bistro at Manoir Hovey

Our go-to for impressing visitors: the setting, the service and a small, excellent menu, by the fire in winter or on the terrace in summer.

My Take

This is our go-to when we have visitors and want to impress them with the setting, the service, and the food. The menu is small but excellent. We don’t go as often on our own these days, mostly because the menu doesn’t change much, and even as the casual option at Hovey, it’s not exactly cheap. So when it’s just the two of us, we usually try something new. But with guests, it’s a clear winner. In winter, sitting by the big fireplace is hard to beat. In summer, a sunny day on the covered terrace makes for a meal you’ll remember.

Public Knowledge

The Michelin Guide lists Le Tap Room as a traditional-cuisine bistro complementing Manoir Hovey's fine-dining restaurant, noting rustic décor of old tools and outdoor gear and dishes such as bison tartare and scallops served as carpaccio or seared (Michelin Guide). The regional tourism listing names mushroom-stuffed quail, smoked trout, and the house Abenaki poutine among its signature dishes, alongside a large brick fireplace (Eastern Townships Tourism). On Tripadvisor, atmosphere is the highest-rated category (4.7 of 5) and value the lowest (3.9), suggesting price relative to value is the main reservation among reviewers (Tripadvisor).
