Jack Flat
Great smash burgers, a poutine that beats Chez Paul's, over-the-top cocktails, and late hours in Sherbrooke.

My Take
Jack Flat in Sherbrooke (unlike its sibling outside of Montreal) isn’t about barbecue. It’s about smash burgers, and they’re great. The poutine is also really good, and I actually think it’s better than Chez Paul. I always get the regular poutine. For burgers, I’ve tried both the double and the single, and I recommend the single for the best crispness. When you stack patties, you lose some of that edge. If you’re hungry, get two singles instead of a double. There’s a bacon-jalapeño version I like. The drinks are a bit over the top—big, sometimes blue, not subtle. If you’re interested in conjuring the cocktails from the 2005 drinks menu at TGI Fridays, order one. It’s fun. If you’re a snob, stick to beer; there’s no wine. Churros are good. The other desserts were lackluster. One last thing: they’re open late, which is actually useful on weekends.
Public Knowledge
Jack Flat opened its Sherbrooke branch at the corner of Bowen and Galt, in the former Omnibouffe space, in fall 2024, bringing a country- and rodeo-themed American concept focused on smash burgers after the brand's launch at Laval's Centropolis (107.7 Estrie). The brand describes its smash burgers as quarter-pound patties pressed on the griddle with cheddar, pickles and grilled onions, and its poutine as made with fries cut fresh on site and fresh cheese curds delivered daily (Jack Flat).
