My Take

The strip-mall location might make you hesitate, but once you’re inside, it’s actually quite charming. The food is excellent, and the staff are great at helping with wine choices. If I have one complaint, it’s that the desserts don’t quite match the level of the savory dishes. The vegetables, in particular, are impressive. I’ve had a beet starter and, on another visit, a carrot starter—both were fantastic. They also did a foie gras starter that was one of the most interesting takes I’ve seen. We’ve been three times in three months. The only thing to keep in mind is that the menu doesn’t change much, so it’s not a place I’d visit every month. But if you want to take someone who enjoys creative cooking, this is one of the best spots.

Public Knowledge

Tastet describes Bistro Le Louis XVI as French bistronomy tucked into an unassuming Sherbrooke strip mall, with a lively room, high ceilings and large wooden arches salvaged from a church (Tastet). Chef and co-owner Sébastien Louisseize, formerly of Au Pied de Cochon and Monarque, cooks comforting French classics built on local producers, with a menu that shifts with the seasons (Tastet). On Tastet’s 2024 visit, highlights included leek vinaigrette, a tomato-water risotto with labneh and burrata, Quebec salmon with corn cream, and a marrow bone with chanterelles that the critic singled out as the standout (Tastet).
