Alessa Trattoria

Easy Italian comfort food in Magog: fine for a group, but a notch below its sister restaurant, Pinocchio.

My Take

This place is okay, but I’d put it a notch below Pinocchio. Some dishes, especially the pizza, are fine, but nothing has made me want to go back. If I needed dinner in Magog, I’d probably try somewhere new first, unless there was a specific reason or I was with a group looking for easy Italian comfort food.

Public Knowledge

Alessa Trattoria opened in spring 2018 in the former Jack-O building on Rue Principale Ouest, run by Alexandra Verret, who also operates Magog’s Le Pinocchio, with a pitch of pasta, pizza, shareable plates, draft beer, and affordable prices (La Tribune). The restaurant positions itself as a family- and group-oriented trattoria with an open kitchen and screens for sports events (Alessa). On Tripadvisor, several reviewers praise the pizza (including the calzone and house Alessa pizza) and the décor and upstairs covered terrace, while recurring complaints include bland or uniform tomato-sauce pasta, small portions for the price, and disputed charges on the bill (Tripadvisor).
